As we come closer to Christmas, we may well have the festive season in mind. It’s a time of year when we think about spending time with family and friends.
That often means enjoying some great company, but it’s also likely to involve eating and drinking together. For those of us who are looking to stay healthy during Christmas this can seem like a recipe for disaster.
Is it possible to have fun at Christmas without being unhealthy?
Try Not To Worry:
If you’re on a diet then the approach of Christmas can seem particularly daunting. You may worry that you won’t have enough self control to deal with all of the expected temptations. It can certainly be difficult to refuse all of the tasty treats that are likely to be on offer.
But there’s no point worrying about what may happen. By doing so, all that you’ll do is to get yourself feeling stressed. That’s certainly unlikely to help your dieting efforts.
So how can you approach the situation?
There are many ways to handle the situation. Trying to avoid all chocolates, mince pies, alcohol and other treats over this period is unlikely to be a successful strategy. One of the main problems will be that you’ll see others enjoying these items of food and drink.
That’s likely to make you desire them all the more.
An alternative is to try and be sensible, but to accept that you will allow yourself some treats now and again. This might be seen as being a more realistic approach. It’s likely that you will be making a conscious effort to avoid eating too much, but this approach does allow for the fact that you may slip up occasionally.
If you’ve already prepared for such eventualities, then at least you won’t be feeling too guilty if you are tempted by a slice of the Christmas cake! This is really important, as there’s no doubt that Christmas certainly should not be about guilt.
You’ll want to concentrate on having a great time with your family.
Forget The Diet:
The approach that some people take is to completely forget about trying to hold back. They eat and drink what they want, with the expectation that they will deal with the consequences after Christmas.
As a strategy, this might be seen as being considerably more risky. It will only really work if you are able to tackle a proper exercise regime in January. It may take a considerable amount of self control for you to be able to do that, particularly if Christmas leaves you really out of shape.
You may think that this strategy will give you the best chance of really enjoying the festive period. Isn’t that what Christmas is all about?
This sounds good in theory, although you’ll need to be sure that you truly are able to enjoy the Christmas period. If you are actually spending the whole time worrying about whether you’ll be able to shift the weight once it’s all over, then you may not end up having quite as much fun as you expected.
The Right Strategy For You:
The reality is that the best person to decide on an approach that works will be you. That’s because you’ll have a far better understanding of your mentality than anyone else. You’ll know what’s realistic and how you can deal with the temptations provided by all that food and drink.
