Many people may assume that putting up with snoring now and again is part and parcel of a relationship, but for some, snoring is a serious problem that has profound implications for their relationship with their partner. The most common problems associated with snoring are sleep deprivation and disturbed sleep patterns; most of us will be familiar with the scenario of lying wide awake listening to our other half snoring away without a care in the world. Missing out on sleep in the short-term can cause you to feel tired and lethargic the next day and it may affect your concentration and productivity at work. In the long-term, the consequences of disrupted sleep can be much more serious and may include depression, fatigue and an increased risk of medical conditions.
Effects Of Snoring On Relationships:
In a relationship, snoring can have a huge impact. The person who snores may not even be aware that they snore but their partner may start to become frustrated, irritable and quick-tempered. Some people may start to resent their partner for waking them and keeping them awake and this can cause problems in the relationship, especially if the individual is already dealing with stress at work or experiencing difficulties in their personal life.
In extreme cases, snoring can cause rows and even destroy relationships. Sleep deprivation fuels arguments and can cause people to say things that they would never usually say, problems and rows may spiral out of control and the relationship may break down.

There are different reasons why people snore. In many cases, people snore occasionally because they have a cold or a cough or they are in a particular sleeping position. Whilst a great proportion of people tend to snore when they lie on their backs. People who snore often do so because they are overweight. Frequent snoring may also be associated with drinking alcohol on a regular basis and taking sleeping pills. Sometimes, allergies can also contribute to snoring.
Cure For Snoring:
Snoring can be a problem but, in most cases, there are solutions that can help to improve sleep patterns and restore harmony in a relationship. There are a few simple steps you can take to reduce snoring:
• Avoid drinking before you go to bed
• Keep your bedroom clean, dry and as dust-free as possible. If you have an allergy, see your doctor and ask about possible treatments and use hypoallergenic bed linen
• If you are overweight, try to lose weight by adopting a healthy eating regime and increasing the amount of exercise you do. People who have a BMI (body mass index) of over 25 are classed as overweight and this increases the risk of snoring
• Avoid eating large meals just before bed
• Use nasal sprays if you suffer from congestion
• Try different sleeping positions
• See your dentist. Many now offer treatment solutions in addition to other dental treatments.
• See your doctor if you snore on a regular basis. Snoring can be associated with problems affecting the nasal passages and you may be referred for treatment
• Use nose strips
