The 80% Diet And 20% Exercise Rule And How It Relates To Nutrition And Fitness:   

We all know how important nutrition and fitness are when it comes to our bodies.  Whether it is from reading magazines or hearing from word of mouth, it’s socially accepted and scientifically proven that having a good diet and exercising is critical to maintaining a healthy body.

Is Diet More Important Or Exercise?   

This is where The Pareto Principle comes into play.  The Pareto Principle is also known as the 80/20 rule, which says that 80% of results come from 20% of causes.  Examples? Sure:

  • 80% of all wealth is distributed to 20% of the population
  • 80% of all your work day productivity comes from 20% of your time
  • 80% of all your company’s outputs come from 20% of the workers

There are sometimes where this number can go as high as 99/1 – but the point is there is often one small thing that you do that has a huge impact on your results.

So Which One Is It?    

Believe it or not, diet is the 80% that will get your body feeling and looking better.  Your body is a well-oiled machine – if you put garbage into a machine, what do you think will happen? It’ll become sluggish, it’ll become less efficient, and it’ll hate you for abusing it.

Focus on eating healthier foods and it will make a world of difference – guaranteed.  A big reason why people get obese is due to lack of discipline when it comes to diet.  They open that bag of chips and they tell themselves a few chips won’t hurt.  Then before they know it, they’ve finished the whole bag and they’re popping open a can of soda while looking for the next greasy snack.

The toughest part is killing the bad eating habits.  The saying that old habits die hard is right on point here – the key is to get started.  Once you get past the hardest part of starting on your healthy diet, you’ll be well on your way to not only feeling more energized, but looking better as well.  And we all know what that means – increased confidence!

Don’t Get Me Wrong……

Exercise is still very important! Staying active is important to keeping your well-oiled machine running at an optimum level.  Think of it this way:

  • Diet = the engine
  • Exercise = the turbocharger

Make sure that if you exercise (and if you don’t you should) that you keep mixing up your workouts.  You do not want to continue repeating the same workouts as your body will adapt to a routine.  Keep your body guessing and you will see increased benefits.

Just Remember……

Diet and exercise complement each other.  Feed your engine with good food and it will perform at a high level.  Throw in exercise and your body will be at another level. That’s why it’s said 80% Diet and 20% Exercise….
