Natural Remedies For Treating Lupus

When the body’s immune system attacks its own tissues, a chronic autoimmune disease known as Lupus may be the result. Infections, inflammation of internal organs, and skin damage are all symptoms one can experience while suffering from the disease.

Though Lupus tends to affect women in their thirties or forties, there are genetic factors that may cause others to experience the disease as well. The onset of the disease can be hastened in predisposed individuals as a result of viral infections, exposure to ultraviolet light, certain drug use, or even injuries to the body.

Summer months tend to cause increases in the lesions typically seen through suffering from Lupus. Exposure to sunlight seems to be the reason for the seasonal increase in symptoms; however, illness, fatigue and menstruation all contribute as well.

The following list of natural herbal remedies can provide positive effects in the treatment of one’s symptoms. Caution should be administered by anyone attempting their own course of treatments, with the overriding guideline of stopping any actions which have undesirable results.

Natural Herbal Remedies For Treating Lupus:

  • Reishi Mushroom Extract: Will enhance the bodies immune functions. Recommended dose of 1 gram three times per day.
  • Grapseed Extract: 50 milligrams twice per day.
  • Turmeric: 3 daily doses of 300 milligrams.
  • Pine Bark Extract: 50 milligrams twice per day.
  • Echinacea:  This herb should be avoided at all costs as it stimulates the autoimmune system.

Another effective treatment option is to radically overhaul the foods in ones diet. Consumption of anything which tends to increase Lupus symptoms should be immediately eliminated from the diet. Tomatoes, peppers and eggplant, all members of the nightshade family, seem to make symptoms worse in patients and should never be consumed if at all possible.

Generally speaking, eating a good healthy diet will also provide for relief for Lupus sufferers. The reduction of animal fat from meats and fatty oils, high in Omega-6, is wise and easy to apply to one’s lifestyle.

Reducing calorie intake and drinking eight glasses of water everyday is also thought to help treat Lupus symptoms. Foods high in Omega-3 oils, such as salmon and sardines are good sources of protein. If one has sensitivities to wheat or chocolate, and sees flare ups in symptoms, a decreasing of their consumption should be considered as well.

Understanding ones limits is an important aspect of naturally treating the symptoms associated with having Lupus. As the disease increases, pain from swelling and inflammation, may become more common. If any activity causes symptoms to flare up, reduce or stop participation. If possible, look for other hobbies or new exercise programs.

Heat and cooling therapies can have beneficial effects. Hot tub submersion or simply the application of heating pads followed by ice packs can provide some relief. While it may just be the heat of the hot water, some patients swear by the act of soaking sore joints in a warm water and vinegar solution.

If a treatment provides comfort and relief, chances are there is nothing wrong with it and should be continued. On the other hand, if symptoms increase or you experience any discomforts, it should be discontinued immediately. If the reaction persists, it is advisable to consult ones medical provider.
